TeenLife Center (TLC) is a multiprogram, multisite center that provides year-round, innovative, research-based programming for adolescents in the Duluth, Minnesota public schools. Our mission is to provide a continuum of services that promotes health and reduces risky behaviors during adolescence. Programming starts in sixth grade with service focus narrowing to more high-risk youth as they move through adolescence.
Funding for all TLC programs is provided through various public and private grants, and the University of Minnesota-Duluth provides oversight and fiscal management, as well as other in-kind services. Health Services and Resiliency Project are programs currently available through TLC.
TLC has established itself as a leader in the community in health promotion and risk reduction. As a result, we have partnerships in place with a variety of youth serving organizations. The school district provides space in-kind for our offices and class space for programming. Students are excused and/or assigned to our program for curriculum instruction during the school day and receive classroom credit for their participation. St. Louis County Department of Public Health and Arrowhead Juvenile Center have both been contracted for our services. Recently, the Duluth School District approached TLC to request TLC Health Services for the next year in alternative school setting. Principals from other schools where TLC Resiliency Project is not provided have requested services and additional follow-up services, as well.
